Founded by John Kenneth Hoare in the late 1950s, J.K. Hoare & Co began as a land drainage contractor focused on improving post-war agriculture. Over the decades, the company has evolved into a leading manufacturer of precast concrete products, adapting to market demands and solidifying its reputation in the construction industry.

From humble beginnings to a significant player in the precast concrete market, JKH’s journey reflects resilience, dedication, and a commitment to quality.
1957
J. K Hoare + Co land drainage contractors, started by John Kenneth Hoare, to support farmers with field amalgamations (removing hedgerows to increase the size of fields and the installation of drainage systems in their fields to increase food production after the second world war. Their first contracting job was for a farm in Barnet, by the 1960’s they were draining around 700 acres of farmland per year.
1968
Patented two piece headwall known as Type K = This name refers to the post-war Ministry of Agriculture classifications that could accommodate 4”, 6”, 9” or even 12” diameter pipes
1969
JKH Drainage Units was founded by John Kenneth Hoare to focus on the pre-cast concrete business. The land drainage business continued to run
1970
Purchased land on Mildenhall Industrial Estate. JKH Drainage Unit’s Ltd first concrete batching plant at the new Mildenhall site could produce 600kg of concrete per batch.
1986
Brian Prince joined JKH. Brian designed and fabricated the first large Spillway Headwall mould
JKH received an order from Roadworks (now Jackson Civils) for some large 1-piece reinforced concrete headwall weighing 2 tonne each – for delivery to a road widening project in Takeley, Essex. This was the first of its size cast by JKH.
1990
JKH Installed a Mecalec concrete batching plant
1995
JKH began our long-standing working relationship with Althon to produce their linear drainage system. One of our largest contracts in the mid to late 1990’s was to supply the channels for the Millennium Dome Project.
1996
John Hoare retired from day-to-day involvement with the company but oversaw the natural growth of the company as sales growth came from the civil engineering industry requiring more pre-cast units rather than casting structures on site.
2013
Daniel and James Prince joined JKH
2014
JKH purchased an additional site on Mildenhall Industrial estate to expand our GRC (Glass
Reinforced Cement) department.
2017
Installed new concrete Batching Plant with 0.75m2
Teka mixer
2019
JKH purchased a 6-acre derelict pharmaceutical production facility on Mildenhall industrial
estate and set about applying for planning permission to convert the whole site to concrete & GRC production.
2021
JKH completed installation of a new 1.5 m2 Teka concrete batching plant and commenced operations at Chiswick Avenue on 19th Jul
2022
Investment in 35tonne Combilift SC3 straddle carrier to increase JKH’s lifting capacity. The straddle carrier enables JKH to manufacture and lift up to 35 tonne single castings.
Investment in a Schnell Eura 16 to cut and bend reinforcing
2024
JKH Invested in a state-of-the-art factory heating system to enhance workplace safety for our team and ensure consistent production of high-quality products throughout the year.
